Ball clay
Definition:

A very high plastic high-firing clay that is mined in very specific areas of the world that fires to a light buff when not glazed.  It delivers the plasticity needed for ceramic sanityware, without it manufacturing sophisticated ceramic products would be impossible.  One of the largest deposits of ball clay in the world is located in Tennessee and Kentucky.
